Like most Tony Hawk's games, while American Wasteland includes an array of tracks spanning rock and roll, heavy metal and hip-hop, its pride and joy are its punk rock offerings. ![]() But, yet again, American Wasteland pulled out all the stops here. Even the much-maligned Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 includes some legitimate bangers. ![]() Granted, there aren't very many games in the series with bad soundtracks. And this is yet another category in which American Wasteland absolutely excels. Then, of course, you can't talk about a Tony Hawk's game without talking about its soundtrack. RELATED: Tony Hawk's Underground Deserves a New Entry These levels include fictionalized versions of real-life locations like Hollywood, Beverly Hills and Santa Monica, as well as entirely original creations like the Oil Rig, the Casino and, of course, the Skate Ranch - which is easily one of the best, not to mention most interesting levels in the entire franchise, allowing players to add to it by destroying and claiming various landmarks from around the city. ![]() Rather than being separated by menus and loading screens, American Wasteland's nine Story Mode levels all exist within in one large map, with players being able to skate to and from each area as they please with no loading screens to speak of (once they've unlocked all of them, naturally). American Wasteland took this one step further, not only featuring a bombastic story of its own set against the backdrop of Los Angeles, but becoming the very first open-world Tony Hawk's game. In 2003, Tony Hawk's Underground changed the game for the franchise, forgoing the original Pro Skater series' arcade-style progression and building on Pro Skater 4's take on career mode by implementing a proper story mode.
